UDAAN

UDAAN is Santosh Cancer Foundation's structured, child-centred developmental continuity programme for children and young adults living in Child Care Institutions. Health, education, life skills, career development and transition support are planned around the same child so development is followed over time rather than delivered as disconnected activities.

Annual Development Cycle

Understand → plan → support → review → plan forward.

UDAAN follows a six-stage implementation cycle that can repeat annually, with intensity and individual interventions modified according to assessed needs.

CCI OnboardingUnderstand the institution, existing systems, roles, referral pathways and safeguarding arrangements.
Baseline AssessmentEstablish the child's starting point across relevant developmental domains.
Individual Development PlanIdentify strengths, needs, goals, referrals, priorities, review dates and progress indicators.
Programme DeliveryDeliver age-appropriate support through the relevant UDAAN pillars.
Monitoring & ReviewFollow participation, progress, referrals, barriers and emerging needs.
Annual AssessmentCompare progress, review the IDP and transition plan, document learning and plan the next cycle.
Five-Pillar Implementation Framework

Five pillars operate around one Individual Development Plan.

Healthy, Learning, Life, Career and Future UDAAN are implementation pillars—not five separate programmes. Their relevance and intensity change with age, developmental readiness, individual needs, interests and aspirations.

Healthy UDAAN

Health & wellbeing

Preventive healthcare, health education, nutrition, screening where appropriate, referral and follow-up. Screening is not treated as an isolated activity.

Learning UDAAN

Learning & educational engagement

Learning-gap identification, academic support, reading culture, study capability and exposure to educational opportunities.

Life UDAAN

Life capability & safety

Communication, personal safety, social development, financial literacy, self-care and practical everyday capability.

Career UDAAN

Career awareness & pathways

Interest and aptitude exploration, counselling, pathway mapping, skills, exposure and opportunity linkage for eligible age groups.

Future UDAAN

Transition & independent living

Higher education, employability, financial preparedness, independent living skills, mentorship and transition planning.

Operational backbone

Individual Development Plan

The IDP connects strengths, developmental needs, individual goals, referrals, educational support, career interests, life-skill priorities, review dates and progress indicators.

Age-responsive planning

Priorities change with age; continuity remains.

The age bands guide implementation rather than impose rigid boundaries. Individual needs and developmental readiness remain part of planning.

3–5Foundational health, development, early learning, communication, emotional security and play.
6–9Foundational learning, healthy habits, communication, social skills and curiosity.
10–13Academic strengthening, self-awareness, personal safety, emotional development and early career exposure.
14–21Career and education planning, life skills, employability, higher education, financial independence and transition.
Institutional Entry

CCI onboarding comes before child-level intervention.

The framework first assesses the participating CCI and establishes objectives, roles, communication, scheduling, child participation, consent and safeguarding, referrals, documentation and review arrangements. A formal implementation understanding or MoU may be executed where appropriate.

Assess CCIChildren, health and education arrangements, infrastructure, staffing, referrals, support and documentation.
Agree RolesSCF and CCI responsibilities, communication and activity schedules.
SafeguardConsent/assent, child protection, confidentiality, safe media and escalation arrangements.
Map ServicesExisting and external health, education, counselling, career and skill-development linkages.
Activate PilotBegin approved child-level work only after institutional readiness.
ReviewMonthly, quarterly and annual review informs corrective action and future planning.
Protection boundary: identifiable child information, consent/assent material, safeguarding records and operational source documents remain controlled. Public communication uses only appropriately aggregated, privacy-cleared and approved evidence.
Monitoring & Evaluation

Activity → output → outcome → learning.

UDAAN separates delivery volume from immediate outputs and developmental outcomes. The pilot is intended to establish a detailed KPI dashboard during baseline and to generate an Annual UDAAN Impact & Learning Report after end-line review.

ActivityWhat was delivered: screenings, sessions, participation, exposure and counselling activity.
OutputImmediate results: children screened or supported, gaps identified, profiles completed and referrals completed.
OutcomeChange over time in health, learning, capability, career awareness and future readiness.
LearningFeedback, barriers, cost, staffing, documentation burden, effectiveness and replicability.
Responsible Scale

Pilot → learn → validate → standardise → responsibly replicate.

Before expansion, UDAAN assesses effectiveness, child participation and acceptability, resource requirements, cost per child, staffing, partner availability, operational challenges, documentation burden, outcomes and replicability across different CCIs.
